TUC.technology 3.0 debut at Milan Design Week 2023

The protagonists of the DesignTech space at the Fuorisalone are the two prototypes of TUC S.r.l.: TUC.nest and TUC.wire in world premiere for the public at Milan Design Week 2023.

Torino – A few hours after the world premiere, TUC.technology 3.0 debuts in society at Milan Design Week. From 18 to 23 April at the new Designtech hub, the plug&play mobility of the future by TUC.technology takes shape.

100% Made in Italy the young Deep Tech Company, known for its "USB of mobility" solution TUC.technology, unveils the two prototypes TUC.nest and TUC.wire: mobile spaces that can be furnished according to your needs.

TUC s.r.l. has in fact developed and patented a new and disruptive technology, which allows the development of modular solutions for 'human-centric' vehicles. TUC transforms the use and meaning of the vehicle: from a pure mobility tool to an environment to be inhabited and configured. A patented system to create your own vehicle without limits other than those dictated by your needs in a functional, flexible, and consistent with the new social needs aimed at the next decade.

The first prototype developed by TUC S.r.l is the TUC.nest the "Kit for Mobility Space Development" an iconic sculpture representing the "TUC mobile bubble", a modular canvas that synthesizes all the possible combinations of spaces and proportions to define the vehicles of the future with the aim of visualizing at a glance all the TUC technology that will be implemented on a vehicle "powered by TUC" and,  through 13 plugs that can be moved both longitudinally and transversely, it allows you to "design" a mobile space tailored to the real needs of customers to whom it will be available to allow everyone to study, integrate and develop TUC.technology on their vehicles. the next decade.

TUC.nest recreates the hubs of a network connecting, through TUC.technology, all the mobility players of the future. A structure through which a series of triangular surfaces take shape that symbolize the 3 "pillars" of TUC.technology, Mechanics, Electronics and Connectivity, synthesized in a single universal plug&play connector for all vehicles.

TUC.nest is like a moodboard in which to define and redefine the modularity of your vehicle.

The second TUC.wire concept emphasizes even more the real applicability of TUC 3.0 and is represented by a running prototype of a city car in which two plug_mini have been applied to be able to demonstrate its usability in real life and integration on existing vehicles by enabling with a simple plug & play gesture a digital-steering wheel cockpit system with drive by wire steering controls that thanks to the universal TUC connector can be plugged for drive the vehicle from both Passenger/Driver sides and vice versa, an important demonstration of the infinite possibilities that TUC.technology offers to the world of mobility.

TUC.wire represents the combination of the current world and the new mobility made of technology useful to meet the needs of users at all times.

Both prototypes are a tribute to Italian Design in its purest conception on the occasion of the most important event in its capital par excellence that this year will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. TUC.nest and TUC.wire will be among the protagonists in the DesignTech space at the Certosa District, the stage of the Fuorisalone that represents the fusion between Design and Technology.

Thanks to TUC technology, the concept of vehicle can be moved from defined to definable, real "canvas" by completely reformulating what users can do on board. TUC.technology, in fact, allows you to customize the vehicle by integrating components of various kinds (seats, dashboards, smart components) making the mobility experience truly tailor-made.

TUC.technology is aimed at all mobility players, from manufacturers of vehicles of any type and use (land, air, and sea) and manufacturers of vehicle components. It has been designed to interface the different internal devices, such as seats, infotainment systems but, being designed to enable the complete modularity of any type of vehicle, it has also been designed to interface with devices outside the passenger compartment.

TUC 3.0 has been included in 2 prototypes developed to show the application of technology on the vehicle and combined with 5 plug & play demo devices developed together with partners of excellence.

“The decision to preview the TUC 3.0 technology and the prototypes that host it at Milan Design Week" - said Ludovico Campana, inventor and CEO of TUC - "is a choice consistent with TUC's values based on the fusion of technology, design and processes in a completely new language for the mobility landscape. By making possible what until yesterday was impossible in the industry, that is, to create definable and no longer defined vehicles, in short, it will no longer be the user who follows the life cycle of the vehicle, but the vehicle will be able to support the "life cycle" of its user and adapt to his changed needs, a very important moment of sharing with society".

The TUC 3.0 technology is an eco-system that has as its founding basis the TUC.plug, a universal connector for any type of vehicle that contains the 3 fundamental elements of the vehicle interfaces: the plug&play and multimode mechanical structural fixing (which allows a fixing in 4 different positions at 360 °), electricity to power the different devices that are connected to the vehicle and connectivity,  for data exchange between devices and vehicle but also outside the vehicle itself.

The TUC.plug consists of two main components: the female representing the main element as well as the interface inside the vehicle and the male representing the interface to the device to be connected to the vehicle.

The innovative design of the TUC.plug, in addition to accommodating all the features already mentioned, through automotive grade connectors creates a network architecture called TUC.network, a "Daisy Chain" to distribute through a single cable that starts from the main power battery of the vehicle all the plugs necessary to connect the vehicle devices: seats, dashboards, displays or devices made ad hoc.

The soul of the technology is the Hyperboards System®, it allows through layered electronic boards inside TUC.plug to manage the distribution of electricity both at low voltage, typical of the latest generation vehicles, and at high voltage for devices that require it and data connection through an automotive grade Ethernet ensuring redundancy and customization. The Hyperboards® allow the perfect and constant operation of the devices connected through the TUC.plug and the TUC.network.

The operating logics are defined and managed through the TUC system. OS that uses a firmware inside TUC.plug and manages all the operating logics from the electromechanical actuation (closing and opening) through the dedicated Micro Power Unit, to the recognition of the devices and their direction of assembly in the vehicle.

The TUC.brain is the brain where the main TUC software resides. OS that allows you to manage the entire network and individual plugs intelligently, evolving according to the infinite reconfigurations thanks to the possibility of recognizing all possible connector/device switches, always ensuring the perfect functionality of the devices regardless of their movement within TUC.network.

An unprecedented development work that has allowed in the last 2 years to define a simple design that together with the integration of new technologies, have optimized all aspects, from strength to lightness, from compactness to simplicity, from speed to reliability and safety.

Precisely these last two aspects have been taken care of to be in line with the main international regulations both in terms of safety and in terms of robustness and reliability to allow immediate integration into the vehicles.

Thanks also to the use of advanced materials such as the aluminum alloy ALU7075, commonly known as ERGAL, and used for the body of TUC.plug, it was possible to combine high resistance and very low weights. Finally, TUC.plug has been designed in two different sizes, both extremely compact compared to the interfaces of today's vehicular devices in order to better manage the different interface areas.

The TUC.plug was the first development, designed to interface with large and higher weight devices that must comply with stricter safety standards such as, for example, seats. From the studies carried out for TUC.plug was born TUC.plug_mini that, to the same characteristics of electrical interface and connectivity, combines ultra-compact dimensions to be able to interface with lighter devices such as, for example, infotainment systems.

In the last 2 years, TUC.technology's engineering efforts have also been focused on validating the TUC 3.0 release according to the strictest safety, vibration, soundproofing and resistance to extreme conditions.

Validations successfully obtained in all these areas thanks to a path of virtual and real iterative tests that have been conducted to obtain compliance with the ECE R17 standard relating to the structural tightness of seat anchorage systems with decelerations of 20g at 50 km / h, to the ISO 16750-3 standard relating to vibration and soundproofing tests in extreme conditions both from the point of view of the road surface and from the point of view of climatic. Finally, the pairing/uncoupling tests were comparable to USB Type-C ports.

TUC.technology is a validated and concrete solution for the next generation of vehicles.

For the development of devices to interface with TUC.technology prototypes, partners of excellence in different fields of application have been involved, The TUC.technology Partner Excellence Program, launched since its inception, has seen historical partners and new names of absolute excellence involved in the launch of TUC 3.0. A Partnership Program aimed at further underlining the potential of TUC.technology as an enabler of fully modular mobile spaces.

Among the historic partnerships, LAVAZZA, which has been linked to TUC.technology since its first launch in 2018, has contributed to the launch of TUC 3.0 by creating its third version of a coffee machine for vehicles that it developed for the first time ever in collaboration with TUC.technology on the occasion of the TUC 1.0 Presentation on 28 September 2018.

Another historical partner is ADIENT, world leader in the production of vehicle seat series, and also linked to TUC.technology since 2018, with which the integration of the new TUC 3.0 technology was carried out on 4 High Level seats with different electronically managed functions.

The technological excellence is further underlined by the partnership with SAMSUNG KNOX which, through its tailor-made solutions, has allowed us to develop a control interface for connected devices through TUC.technology that can be used in absolute safety on any mobile device and that has been integrated for the presentation of TUC 3.0 in Samsung's latest generation Mobile and Wearable devices. In addition, through the latest generation Galaxy Gaming Monitor it was possible to further emphasize the potential of interface on commonly used devices.

The task of underlining the concreteness of the development of TUC 3.0 in vehicles has been entrusted to 2 new partnerships 100% Made in Italy. The partnership with SILA Group, leader in gearbox control management systems and integrated systems for remote control of cockpit functions, has led to the development of a multifunctional tunnel that integrates the gear management controls through a rotary device and a haptic screen for the management of various controls, from air conditioning to driving dynamics.

Finally, the partnership with EMA Global Engineering, a leading reality among advanced engineering consulting companies, has led to the development of an innovative integrated digital-steering wheel cockpit device with drive by wire steering controls developed by TUC.technology which, thanks to the support of EMA, has been integrated both on TUC.nest and on a prototype of a really working and running car, emphasizing the real potential of TUC 3.0.
